Gin Bothy – a journey from jam through gin to cider

Kim Cameron, founder of Gin Bothy started on her award-winning gin-making journey, not perhaps in the most conventional of ways – it was inspired by using the left-over fruit juice from making her delicious jam. So, from jam to gin, The Gin Bothy was born.

Based in Angus, a place that’s famous for its incredible produce, especially soft fruits, Kim began experimenting with the incredible natural larder on her doorstep, and so the extensive and exciting Gin Bothy range evolved and expanded.

Using a local distillery, the Gin Bothy team produce everything from the Original Bothy Gin made using Scottish and locally foraged botanicals, alongside a mouth-watering range of fruit and infused gins and liqueurs. The infusions can take up to 4 months before bottling, all of which is still done by hand.

As the operation grew, it was time to move, and that’s where The Bothy Experience comes in.

Housed in the former Angus Folk Museum in Glamis, minutes away from the famous Glamis Castle (birthplace of The Queen Mother), The Bothy Experience allows the visitor a truly immersive experience, so it appeals to all ages, although the twice-daily tasting is restricted to over 18s, naturally.

‘Bothy’ means shelter, and The Experience – like a Bothy – is free to explore. The Bothy Beginnings room takes you through the Gin Bothy journey while the Bothy Tales room tells the wonderful story of Scottish Bothies.

The shop on site is an emporium of loveliness with Kim’s original jam products on sale, alongside the full range of Gin Bothy Gin and liqueurs and carefully selected gifts. There’s now even Bothy Cider on offer.

Open Thursday to Sunday 11-5pm, please visit the website for information on tastings and the full range of Gin Bothy products.
