Scottish Gins recieve Great Taste medals

Once again, Scottish Gin brands have made their mark on a prestigious global food and drink awards, with several gins picking up stars in the Great Taste Awards 2018.

Great Taste is the world’s most coveted food awards celebrate the very best in food and drink.  This week, they have announced the Great Taste stars of 2018. Over 12,600 products were judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates of chefs, food critics, restaurateurs and producers, as well as a  host of food writers.

Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food award scheme for artisan food and drink producers. As well as a badge of honour, the iconic Great Taste label is a flag to a great tasting product, accredited through hours of blind-tasting by hundreds of judges.

This year, several Scottish Gin brands will be proudly displaying the Great Taste badge and leading the pack is The Orkney Gin Company, who collected stars for their full range: Mikkelmas, Johnsmas and Rhubarb Old Tom.  The Orkney distillers are absolutely delighted with this result, which comes on the back of wins at IWSC earlier in the month.

Staying in Orkney and Sea Glass Gin from Deerness Distillery also collected a Great Taste star – again, following prestigious awards at IWSC.  This young Scottish Gin brand is certainly getting some great international recognition.

Adding to their collection of awards, Esker Gin and Esker Honey Spiced Gin from the Highland distillery also received a star each.

Rock Rose Gin from Dunnet Bay Distillers were celebrating when their Autumn Rock Rose was selected to receive a Great Taste star.

And an amazing 2 stars were awarded to Granite North Gin, which will no doubt boost the confidence of the Highland distillers, ahead of The Scottish Gin Awards.

And in the liqueurs category, Edinburgh Gin’s Pomegranate and Rose liqueur also collected a star.

There were 12,634 entries into Great Taste this year and of those products, 192 have been awarded a 3-star, 1,207 received a 2-star and 3,254 were awarded a 1-star accolade.

Well done to the Scottish Gin brands who achieved success this year!
