The Big Big (Scottish Gin) Pool Tournament

On Thursday 27th June representatives of 20 fantastic Scottish Gin brands got together in Marco’s Pool Hall, Edinburgh to test their pool skills and see who would walk away with the trophy.

The event was organised by The Scottish Gin Society and The Big Big Gin Festival and the atmosphere was fantastic, with plenty of friendly banter between the gin teams. It soon became clear which teams had put in a bit of practice and which hadn’t…

Eight teams qualified for the quarter finals… The Scottish Gin Society team bowed out at this stage!

After the initial Group Stages, there was a 3 team playoff. At this point, Wild Island Gin, Old Curiosity Distillery and Kinrara Gin were equal on points, so a game of KILLER was required to separate them.    This was won by Wild Island.

So the final game was between Wild Island Gin (Cononsay, Hebrides) and Old Curiosity (Edinburgh) and, after a tense and exciting game, solo player, Donald McGhie from Wild Island Gin was victorious, taking home the exclusive Big Big Pool Tournament Trophy.

At the other end of the scale, the plucky Edinburgh Gin team went home with the infamous Loo-ser trophy.

Huge thanks to The Big Big Gin Festival for organising the trophies and to the excellent Marco’s Pool Hall for hosting the event. We’re already looking forward to next years’ tournament, which is planned to be even bigger and better with more gin brands battling for the trophy. We might even get some practice in this time…
