New edition of Kirkjuvagr celebrates Orkney’s musical tradition

To celebrate the 2019 Orkney Folk Festival Orkney Distilling have launched a brand new Scottish Gin named FOY! They say:

Music is the beating heart of Orkney, a constant of island life for generations. Tunes connect us with our past, uniting old and young in an aural celebration of what it is to be Orcadian.

This special edition of Orkney Distilling’s Kirkjuvagr gin pays homage to the traditional island Foy, an eagerly anticipated night of music and entertainment.

The Orkney Distillery teamed up with the legendary Orkney Folk Festival for the gin because they wanted to support one of Orkney’s finest community events which has international recognition.

The Folk Festival committee spent an afternoon at the distillery and worked with their Head Distiller on the mini stills to craft the perfect gin recipe to reflect the festival, even including some wood shavings from a famous instrument maker in there!

It has resulted in a gin where citrus notes from calamondin complement a melody of locally grown botanicals, including Angelica, Aronia, Borage, Meadowsweet, Burnet Rose and Ramanas Rose.

Based on their signature spirit Kirkjuvagr, Foy contains more juniper and is citrus-led.

The name pays homage to the traditional island Foy, an eagerly anticipated night of music and entertainment. Music is an extremely important part of Orcadian culture and we wanted to tie into the Orcadian love of music whilst supporting one of it’s biggest proponents.

What’s more, the team at Orkney Distilling are proudly donating a part of the proceeds from sales of Orkney Foy gin to the Orkney Folk Festival, ensuring the future of this internationally-renowned community event.
