A perfect pairing – Stirling Gin

Some couples celebrate their 26th wedding anniversary with a city break, a romantic meal or a carefully-chosen gift.  But for June and Cameron McCann, October 28th 2015 was also the date that they distilled their very first bottle of Stirling Gin.

And they don’t seem to have rested since. The gin, originally distilled in a ‘cute’ copper still called Jinty, proved so popular that a bigger still was soon needed and Annie arrived on the scene, producing 370 bottles per run.

Now, more than 3 years and many awards down the line, Cameron and June are looking forward to opening the doors to the custom-designed ‘Old Smiddy’ distillery which is situated under the historic walls of Stirling Castle once trod by the Kings and Queens of Scotland and is believed to be the site where King James V stabled his horses back in the 1500s.

Back in the present day and Cameron took a bit of time out from the new distillery build and working on new branding and website for Stirling Gin to answer a few questions for our Scottish Gin Valentine feature.

How did you two meet?

Over a cock, that is a shuttlecock at a badminton club that I played at and June came along to!!

How did you begin your Scottish Gin journey together?

After starting the Stirling gin festival I realised that everywhere else had a gin, but Stirling didn’t. So we created the recipe in the kitchen and launched it the following year, now with the new distillery opening in the coming weeks.

What’s the best thing about working together?

June makes good morning coffee…

What do you like to do together when you’re not working?

Sorry, not working…??  We have a family business so don’t understand the question!  We try to enjoy time with family, friends and travel, along with doing our own sports away from each other

Do you have any plans for Valentine’s Day?

No, as every day with me is Valentines for June.
