New Scottish gin takes flight

There has been a lot of hype about the latest Aberdeen-based gin release – Raven Spirits Ltd. have announced the launch of a new premium gin, Raven Gin.

Initially on sale will be two products: a signature Thought and Memory expression and a limited release Founder’s Edition.

The gin is produced in Aberdeenshire and is inspired by Norse mythology; Odin’s Ravens, Huginn and Muninn, (Old Norse meaning Thought and Memory).

Describing themselves as ‘perfectionists’, creators Callum and Peter Sim have spent a year making Raven Gin but it’s finally available to buy tomorrow (Friday 25th May).

Of the launch, Peter said: “Having been involved in the hospitality and alcohol trades for many years, I have seen first-hand the boom in the popularity of Scottish gins. With my experience, I’m often asked why I haven’t yet produced a gin but, like Callum, I wasn’t prepared to launch anything that wasn’t absolutely perfect – and that takes time!

“We’re incredibly excited about the launch, while the Founder’s Edition is limited, I am sure Thought and Memory will quickly establish itself as a modern classic gin.

“Of course, it means a lot to us to be able to produce this locally at a Deeside-based distillery. We’ve really focused on the taste ‘journey’ and are confident that we’re launching a fantastic product to market.”

Callum reflected “For us, it’s about authenticity and quality. No gimmicks, just a damn fine dram that I am proud to put my name to.”

Raven Gin is distilled with six traditional botanicals with a sweet citrus hint of delicate mandarin, delivering a balanced premium dry gin. In strength, Thought and Memory comes in at 45% ABV; while the limited release Founder’s Edition offers a stronger, smoother 47% ABV.

Plans are in place for a number of seasonal expressions and a Navy Strength at around 57.2% ABV.

The gins will be launched at an exclusive event at Dusk Bar on 25th May and both expressions initially are available for purchase from Friday via www.ravengin.com, at Aberdeen Whisky Shop; Inverurie Whisky Shop; Whiskies of Scotland, Huntly and ABV Craft Drinks, Banchory.

We are really looking forward to trying these gins and bringing you all the news from Raven Spirits and wish them all the very best for the launch.
