ELECTRIC SPIRIT CO. WINS DOUBLE-GOLD AT WORLD-FAMOUS SAN FRANCISCO SPIRITS COMPETITION

Big celebrations are afoot at Edinburgh’s Electric Spirit Co. as it emerges that Achroous, their signature gin, has received a coveted double-gold from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC), widely regarded as one of the toughest tests of spirit quality in the World!

Founded in 2000 and now in its 21st year, the SFWSC describes itself as “one of the most respected and influential spirits competitions in the world.” This year’s competition considered around 2,500 entries. Their judges are drawn from across the North American drinks and hospitality industries and “range from esteemed beverage directors to renowned authors”.

Achroous, created by Electric’s founder and distiller James Porteous, is one of fewer than 30 gins to receive the coveted double-gold medal out of over 400 medallists. Following the blind tasting of hundreds of entries from around the globe, the judging panel members all rated Achroous at a Gold standard, with their unanimous agreement elevating it to the upper award of Double-Gold. This title is reserved for the highest-scoring spirits, placing it “among the finest products in the world” according to the SFWSC.

Commenting on the award, Porteous said: “Getting the email about the medal absolutely floored me. It’s a pretty dark time right now, so winning this award is a massive boost. The San Francisco Awards have a huge reputation, not just in the US, but across the entire drinks industry, worldwide – for Achroous to receive not just a medal, but a Double Gold, is bonkers. Between this and the IWSC (International Wine and Spirits Competition) Gold that the gin’s picked up, I couldn’t be happier with how it’s being received.”

James hopes that the combined success in these two major drinks competitions will help the company’s growth in the US market, where it is currently working to secure distribution partners across a number of key States.

We’re over the moon to hear this great news and wish James and the team at Electric Spirits Co. all the best for even more success in the future!
