Orkney Gin Company

The distillery is a compact purpose built larch clad building, set overlooking Orkney’s Scapa Flow and one of the four famous Churchill Barriers. It consists of two separate areas – one for storage of the gin, and one for the production, which for Orkney Gin Company is a little different. This space is used mostly for steeping botanicals in the gin (known as the bathtub technique), and also houses a 250l purpose built intelligent still, which is made to work incredibly efficiently. All of the gins are hand bottled on site and carefully hand labelled and boxed there – ready to go. The distillery is built right next door to the team’s new family home, it’s very much a family run business with all of the small work force being family members or friends of the family.
