On the 19th July 2015, Vicky and Dale had some employment and location decisions to make; all were rejected and over a few gins, the couple decided to build a gin distillery. The next morning Dale resigned from his job, and the McQueen Gin journey began. Shortly afterwards, Dale visited the premises of Arnold Holstein in southern Germany and ordered Little Maggie (despite the fact that, at the time, they had no building to house her, and no licenses to use her). On 3rd June 2016, after many months of hard work and research, the entrepreneurial (and impulsive) couple launched the McQueen Gin business with 4 completely different and ground-breaking gins; Sweet Citrus, Smokey Chilli, Mocha, and Chocolate Mint. They added their multi-award winning Super Premium Dry Gin in November 2016 and Spiced Chocolate Orange in March 2017. One of the (many) remarkable things about McQueen Gin, is that these are not flavoured gins, all the flavours come from the distillation process, which sees the botanicals left to macerate in the hot spirit overnight before the still is switched on. We are proud to feature this honest and passionate gin distillery on our site.
As you would expect, the Sweet Citrus Gin is bursting with citrus flavours, with some of the lighter juniper and coriander floral notes. Lots of citrus mixed with creamy vanilla and then the sweetness of honeydew melon. This gin boasts a fabulous combination of sweetness and zestiness.
The team at McQueen Gin suggest that you enjoy their Sweet Citrus Gin poured over large ice cubes, topped with Fever Tree Elderflower Tonic Water and garnished with fresh strawberries and cracked black pepper.
You won’t miss the citrus in this stunning gin, but we think it’s the lemongrass that really shines through. We tried it with a light tonic and strawberries and the result was sweet and crisp with pleasingly complex flavours. A perfect summer G&T.
