  The eeNoo Gin Story

On the edge of the Cairngorm National Park in the Scottish Highlands, you’ll find The Lost Loch Distillery, where a pair of adventurous distillers decided they wanted to produce a new gin that really focused on the botanicals of the surrounding area to create a traditional, yet unique taste.

So they experimented with a mixture of locally-sourced and more traditional gin botanicals.  Seeing as a local beekeeper has over 100 hives situated nearby, they agreed that Royal Deeside Honey would play a part in the distillation process.  And locally grown brambles, raspberries, rosehip and heather flower also seemed the epitome of their locality in the Highlands. As Scottish juniper is in decline, the team made the decision to use the finest juniper from the Italian highlands.

After much experimentation, they hit upon the perfect combination for a traditional, yet smooth and fruity gin and eeNoo Gin was born.

But what about the name? Loving a great story, the team tell us that eeNoo is from old scots, meaning just now, at the present time, in a short time, at once.  Time plays a big part in the eeNoo brand and defines the label artwork. While researching the word eeNoo, they discovered a very interesting story of Eenoolooapik or “Mr Eenoo” as he became known, an Inuit who visited Aberdeenshire in the 1800’s.  The label pays tribute to Eenoo and his adventurous spirit. You can read more about Mr Eenoo’s story here.

  Tasting Notes

Nose: Sweet summer berries, think raspberry ice cream. Very little spirit hit. It is light, refreshing and enticing.

Taste: Smooth and refreshing. The raspberries are evident, as is the honey. It gives a real sweet edge to the gin but is balanced perfectly with the juniper and orange peel which come through quite quickly. It is a superb sipping gin. Clean, fresh and not spirituous at all.

The people behind Eenoo Gin recommend you try it with Lamb & Watt Original Tonic and some fresh halved strawberries to garnish.

  The Scottish Gin Society verdict

Exactly as intended, eeNoo gin is bursting with sweet fruity flavours, but that lovely sweetness is perfectly balanced by the more herby botanicals and, as with all great gins, there is a clear juniper taste coming through.

As recommended, we tried it with Lamb & Watt Original Tonic and some fresh strawberry slices and we think that if The Lost Loch Distillery had been around in the 1800’s – this wonderful Scottish Gin is something that even Mr Eenoo would have written home about.
